Rumination

This project has limited scope compared to established dig management solutions (e.g. OCHRE, iDig, Arches) and does not enjoy long term institutional support as existing publication providers (e.g. OCHRE, Opencontext, ADS). However, it is free, light-weight, adaptable and it may offer a more intuitive user exprience then some existing providers.

It came into being due to dissatisfaction with existing solutions to offer a simple, cheap solution to the most pertinent needs of a specific project. While the focus on the small finds may seem out of tune with current trends of incorporating the latest positioning technologies, 3D imaging, aerial photographies, AI, formal ontologies, universal discoverability and wide scale analyses, it may satisfy the needs of researches who simply want online access to the raw data of a specific dig.

It was originally aimed at self-use but due to its adaptability it may beneficial to limited scope projects. It is a result of an extensive personal hobby effort and has no external support whatsoever. Accordingly, no gurantee of future availability can be given.

The field of digital archaeology publication is in flux. The transition from print based to web publications is complex and slow. While a few major players emerged (e.g. ARIADNE, Open Context, Archaeology Data Service) they each have their strength and weaknesses. This project is a free teaser in that uncharted territory.

It may very well join the hoards of dead archaeology online project (e.g. ARK, Houses of CatalHoyuk); however, it did prove useful to some and we hope that it may be useful for more.
